Answer: Masikam or Masyams are performed every month till the Aabdeekam, on the specific Thithi of the departed soul. First Oona masikam from 27th to 30 days but before the first thithi masyam. The Tripaksha oona masikam from 40th to 45th day. Sixth oona masyam between 171 days but before 180 days. The Oona Abdeekam between 341 and 355 days. If the Aabdeekam thithi falls before the said Abdeekam, then it can be performed two days earlier to the Aabdeekam.

The simplest general conditions are, it should not on any Dwadasi day, Janma Nakshatra day of the Kartha or his brothers & sons, not on any Friday or Tuesdays, not on any Sunday that combines with Uthrashada (Uthiradam) nakshatra. There are many more conditions apply that you can check with your Bruhaspathi/Vadyar.
