It was a pleasure reading through this website. For a person being a “SriVaishnava”, not knowing the scientific meaning to so many practices and following them blindy, it has been an enlightening experience. I have a couple of questions: 1) why do men have to wear a pair of “punul”(yagno pavitham) after wedding unlike bachelors wearing just one? 2) I being a srivaishnava lady in my 30s and married to a SriVaishnava want to get “Samashrayanam” done. Is it ok for me to get it done now? Are there any restrictions on a woman getting it done? 3) what is the scientific reasoning behind offering of “tarpanam” on the amavasya day despite following the annual “Shradham”? and why only the amavasya day for it? Thanks in advance. Regards.

Answer: Men to wear a pair of Yagnjopaveetham to signify taking the grahasthashramam, i.e. entering into married life. Yes, you can get the SamasrayaNam done at any time now. There are fewer easily followable conditions apply for this. Nothing very strict. As far the TharppaNam concerned, all the matters are discussed in Q & A format at this page. Also, the meaning with simple explanations are given alongwith TharppaNa mantram in this website pages.
