Dear Sir, My wife is due to deliver a baby on 9th June. According to tradition, Punyavachanam is to be performed on the 11th day. This falls on a Saturday . Since we live in UK, the priests in the nearby temple cannot come on that day to perform the function, as the temple is very busy during weekends. Are there any other days that one can perform punyavachanam and naamakaranam? We would be grateful for an early reply, Thanking you, Sreekanth

Answer: For the naming ceremony  known as Namakaranam & for the Punyaavachanam, the general rule is to perform it on the 11th day for Brahmins, 12th day for Kshatriya, 16th day for Vaisya & 21st day for Soodra. But one can perform it on the 20th day for all the four classes without any hitch. Most importantly, the 8th house to the Lagna of the Muhurtha day is to be blank or clean without any malefics. The most favourable Nakshatra days to be considered if the same is held on other days viz. Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigaseersam, Punarpoosam, Poosam, Magam, Uthiram, Hastam, Chitra, Swathi, Anusham, Moolam, Uthiradam, Thiruvonam, Avittam, Uthirattathi & Revathi. Other 12 stars to be avoided. Sthira Lagnam or benefics with Chala lagnam (Ubhaya rasi) are said to be auspicious for Namakaranam.
